Gone 03:36
A tremor in your heart My head against the wall Always been invisible But never felt so small Throw my shame over my fear Like ashes over snow Can't tell the difference between What poets always know Don't want a premonition I'm tired of the future Tired of being right I just wanted to be wrong Tired of the future Curse a second sight I'm gone I'm gone I'm gone The universe can spit you out At the bottom of the wall Always been impossible But never felt so tall Scenes of disillusion Dancing like the pain of what you should be letting go of But it's always in the way Don't want a premonition I'm tired of the future Tired of being right I just wanted to be wrong Tired of the future Curse a second sight I'm gone I'm gone I'm gone Parasocial dreams meet me at the giant heart I don't think I want what other people want Comfort is a killer, sometimes love will get you caught I don't think I want what other people want Validation & possession, pretty people, clever talk I don't think I want what other people want Safety turns to poison, sometimes love will get you got I don't think I want what other people want Don't want a premonition I'm tired of the future Tired of being right I just wanted to be wrong Tired of the future Curse a second sight I'm gone I'm gone I'm gone

Shiny Dust 02:56
Lost in a memory Tomorrow's always out of sight Dark as a mystery Days are shorter than the light The sun shines a fleur-de-lis Rolling through the audubon Streetcars are telling me Maybe I'm already gone You can't give up Time runs out Moments fall away like tears It's not your fault It's not your doubt It's not anything you fear A trail of shiny dust Inches closer to a flame So quick to embrace Anything that brings you pain Waited so long for you Gave my secrets to the moon A tomb without a key Only gives you someone else's truth You can't give up Time runs out Moments fall away like tears It's not your fault It's not your doubt It's not anything you fear
3.
Spend half your life trying to get back to zero What justice are you waiting for Enchanted by magic made for other people It starts with a key to a door I have to be near you But somebody needs you Can you believe me If I never see you It's been so long since I've felt anything The way that my heart sings for you Sometimes it feels like you love everything But there just isn't enough room For someone who knows me But everyone needs you Can you believe me I can't even see you You breathe an impossible spell And pull me outside of myself We're closer in dreams we've no right to confess I have to be near you But somebody needs you Can you believe me If I never see you You don't believe me
4.
Faded Gold 03:17
So far behind So down below There's never time I can't keep up Seems everybody knows How to live a life Spun out & cold Can't feel the glow Everything departs The faded gold Of the revolving door Nothing left but who you are Maybe the cure for disappointment's wanting more Trust in something you can't see I know there's something meant for me Maybe the cure for bitterness is wanting more Believe in something you can't see There must be something meant for me I'm never here Ashes in the grate Just passing through Dreamed myself blind Into a beautiful embrace Until each one was you Don't want the future I just want you
5.
You can play it as it lays like Joan Didion Seasons change their skin like a chameleon Tell you all my secrets like a confidant They circle in the air like a rond de jambe I don't want to talk about the day to day Those conversations are for people without much to say Do you ever find you wish that you were someone else I don't want a life that's easy to forget A spin of white on amber like a Caili Quan What happens when everything you believed is false The lives within your heart could make a ghost afraid Each rises for a moment like a releve Lock them in a cage like a want untold Heartache's being unable to let it go Summon all your faith when your hope is gone Fate is everyone just being what they are Fate is everyone just being what they are Some things can surprise you on the road to hell Open up the steeple & you ring the bell A blindfold in the dark, undo the alphabet Everything else is a lie we tell ourselves Everything else is a lie we tell ourselves
6.
We're never far from devotion No one needs to know how much it means We hold on to love like time Like it was something we could keep When you're here with me you don't have to be anything There's so little of the future left When you're here with me you don't have to be anything Everything is borrowed in the end Watched my shadow dance across the river Summer always makes me want to hide Night swells like bug bites on your skin You look so good when you're tired The thing about hating yourself is no one cares It's just a prison of your own making A lonely bird sings over Belvidere A dawn's cry on the edge of breaking
7.
Push your hope through the eye of a needle Weariness feels like a gift in the dark "Heaven's a word made for other people" Is one of the lies from the weak of heart Spread your joy as thin as a shadow Unravel a thread for the rest of your life A curse is real if you believe it Circles you like a dead satellite When you turn your face to mine You could almost change my mind If I hurt myself again It's because I only wanted what was right Can you keep bitterness at a distance Like a sin you cross the street to avoid Envy's my favorite one of the seven Maybe there's beauty for everything destroyed
8.
There are things that make you smile There are things you don't want to forget Your reflection in his eyes When he strokes your back like a pet A dream not meant for me Still feels like a ship coming in I'll go through the motions again As if I don't know how it ends Your face burns red from the cold Dickinson Street quartets All your life for a ring on your hand But I don't want to be kept Have I known all the love that I'll know Would it even recognize me now Truth is just like luck is just like Time the way it pulls the stitches out There are things that make you smile There are things you don't want to forget When you've lost all your faith Sometimes you have to pretend There are things that make you smile Don't let the magic begin When a miracle gives up Sometimes you have to give in There are things that make you smile There are things you don't want to forget There are things that make you smile There are things you don't want to forget There are things you don't want to forget

Baby Driver 02:58
A smile you never show to anyone No words can break the spell Repeating reasons to believe you but I don't believe myself Baby Driver in the rearview Fate is racing like a fool To an airport in Atlanta but it doesn't have a clue We speak of loss like it's a shadow Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide We describe disaster by the things it leaves behind If I could hold the hope I have for you For the person in the mirror I could keep your name out of my thoughts but scars run deeper Waves come flooding back Reflections that recede How do I love again when you are all I see We taunt the spirits but we never meet their scorn Nothing is as warm as when you held onto my arm & said "I wish I could be near you every second of the hour" I'm drunk on all your whispers They blow as gentle as the summer The breeze makes me so weak I don't know what to do Can it burn a little longer For a while I swear I felt it last forever Forever dreaming of an ending where I make it back to you
10.
Throw yourself in to make it burn No resurrection here Freedom rises from the ash but I can't touch its wings It's not the same for you & me Wave a torch & shout to keep the wolves at bay There's no room for doubt No time to be afraid What's the sense in staying stuck Throwing good luck after bad Your life is someone else Who could see me now & love me as I am Wave a torch & shout to keep the wolves at bay There's no room for doubt No time to be afraid Holy water from the spout to keep the wolves at bay There's no room for doubt No time to be afraid When it spits us out is there anything to say I gave up all my doubt For something far away
11.
Fall asleep with the light on if you fall asleep at all A night that replies with silence even when you call Secret Spitter in the alley, Pentecostals every night Summer trash wrapped in plastic waiting for the dumpster dive Gold lettered invitation with initials intertwined If the future feels familiar it's a dread that's justified You can torture yourself or you can cast it all aside If you dare to be happy or not, the morning still arrives It feels for everything all you do is apologize Summer trash wrapped in plastic under fear that's calcified You can torture yourself or you can cast it all aside If you dare to be happy or not, the morning still arrives
12.
Don't waste your time waiting for doom to arrive When it gets too close lose it in rhythm & rhyme A zealous mirage says that it's safe to be you She flatters your heart but you just want to hear something true You'll never want for anything It all works out in the end You'll always know love You won't go without Don't waste your time imagining you have a chance Whatever it is, you're not a part of the dance You'll never want for anything It all works out in the end You'll always know love You won't go without Looking at somebody else's paper Just gives you somebody else's answer All you fear is already happening So if your heart wants to sing If your heart wants to sing If your heart wants to sing Let it sing You'll never want for anything It all works out in the end You'll always know love You won't go without

about

A best-of compilation of the music that I put out in 2022, MAGIC FOR OTHER PEOPLE documents a year of parasocial dreams, conversations in half-light, ashes passing through the grate. My songwriting is always about the mystery of trying to solve the unknown things that I've been dancing around my entire life & saying something true. I haven't figured those unknown things out yet but I think it's only really interesting when you don't know the answer.

MAGIC FOR OTHER PEOPLE also serves as a jumping-on point for new listeners & people who don't follow every single thing I put out—I know the world needs another understated lo-fi record like it needs a hole in the head but I do mean everything I say xx

*THIS ALBUM IS INCLUDED WITH A SUBSCRIPTION* 2022 subscribers will be receiving download codes / cassettes in the mail the week of 2/20. If you are a new 2023 subscriber & would like a cassette, send a message & we can make that happen.

You can use the code TDWOL23 for 10% off albums & subscriptions! I am really trying to push the latter this year because I had 21K streams in 2022 & they made a whopping $70. More info at the top of the Bandcamp page!
