Bats don't want your blood They want something prettier & young Falling like the dying leaves Crushed under you & me Tears that line the willow's weep Uncoil the vines of autumn's roll Trembling hands cannot hold on To the mirage of self-control Do what you want with no second thoughts Do what you want & never get caught Snakes don't want your skin No dreams or venom in their bite When we outgrow the past Do we lose the parasite Do what you want with no second thoughts Do what you want & never get caught Bats don't want your blood They want something prettier & young Helicopter seeds Spinning over you & me Bats don't want your blood When it's over & it's done Kick the dirt of honesty On the bones of you & me Bats don't want your blood Saints would rather love Descending like a blinding truth Over the night of me & you
2.
A ghost can't rest until it's understood It drags its chains, haunts your neighborhood Tugging at your sheets, does it meet your eye The catch in your voice needs nothing to be justified I know that this has to stop but I don't want to disappear Every secret has a cost but I can make it easier Put our love in lights, in silent faith When we dream of death it only means we're afraid of change Beauty smiles but beauty doesn't keep the walls from closing in Some are beautiful but they don't know what real beauty is I know that this has to stop but I don't want to disappear Every secret has a cost but I can make it easier We're only getting older & it's only more dangerous If there's something to be saved baby I can keep it safe for us We're only getting older & it's only more dangerous If there's something to be saved honey I can keep it safe for us We're only getting older & it's only more dangerous

Driving past your house with my eyes closed Hands pass through the wheel like I'm a ghost There are no mistakes, only lessons learned The longer you hold a torch the longer that you burn Safety & ennui are good for some But I say if you can't get something right do something dumb I still love you in my own simple way I still miss you like time misses decay And everything you thought that you would be Self-preservation is the coward's art But for annihilation I have no heart Sometimes love is kicking dirt onto a fire Until all that's left to burn is your desire For everything you thought that you would be

I could be the serenade You could be the hands on the windowsill I can help you escape yourself Some fates are better than most You could be the spinning lights I could be the horse in the carousel You can make me forget myself Some fates are better than most A secret for our very own Until the demons & the wolves come home We like to think we have to hold on But the truth is that we don't You could be the golden age I could be the curse in the zombie film You could make me forgive myself Some fates are better than most

about

TDWOL 41 // SOME FATES // I didn't intend on making a record with ghosts, wolves, & other characters that exist in twilight but it is spooky szn after all or maybe it never ends. It makes much more sense for the young & beautiful to wear skulls & write about disappointment & death—precisely because they're young & beautiful—but as you get older, you gain more compassion for those who aren’t healthy or happy because you have to believe that others possess the same compassion. If you think of songs as a way for the past to speak to the future (which I actually do), I imagine my aged & infirm self would rather hear something hopeful than tragic so I’m trying to write more redemptive stuff xx

Written in between chapters of Joe Jackson & Jenny Odell, episodes of Radiolab & 99% Invisible, & weekly games of The Division 2 w/ Randy (we have been stuck on Floor 100 of Summit Mode for the past three weeks if anyone would like to help).

This is the *fourth* EP in my 2021 series. Check out the Subscribe link above for more info!
