The future isn't here but we'll miss it when it's gone A spring that spins like a revolving door I used to think I knew what was right but never wrong But I'm not really present in the present anymore I'm forever leaving Southern California Dancing through graffiti saints & Urban Light My self-loathing was the mammoth trapped on Wilshire Buried in the tar pits of my mind You can shine a memory until it blinds you Into a lie so bright that you can barely see But every in-flight movie just reminds me What if all the things I want are never meant to be Two years ago I was sleepless in Seattle Staring at a ceiling inches from my head I wrote about you every day that summer But I left the book in the rental & you left my heart on read Maybe true love's just a thing only that happens once But I'll spin the wheel as long as your sweet name keeps turning up I thought about your hand holding my hand against your face Maybe true love never dies but it doesn't always stay Do you want to dance? There's music in your eyes Possibility & chance It's good to be alive Suffering & loss teach us to survive It's all part of the cost we pay to be alive Do you want to dance? There's magic in your eyes Coincidence & chance, it's good to be alive Do you want to dance? There's music in your eyes Possibility & chance It's good to be alive It's good to be alive

Tell me what I owe, it's worth it for the moment Say the words to me, I'll hold them for a year Can I pay with silence? I guess I'm always hoping It's never what you want, it's always what you fear For no one to keep me up For no one to hold me back For no one to leave me stuck Whatever I owe, I'll pay it back Why don't you remember the silences for hours That left me burning out like lights along the street I still wake up in the dark like you were next to me I've been going hard for nothing I can keep For no one to keep me up For no one to hold me back For no one to leave me stuck Whatever I owe, I'll pay it back Didn't want to stay too long I painted all my dreams into a corner Nothing's ever as it seems, you give up on a dream to find another For no one to keep me up For no one to hold me back For no one to leave me stuck Whatever I owe, I'll pay it back

Summer's hard but most seasons are, I know A fantasy that slips through the bars, I know Fireworks & dreams that go off every night I love explosions but sometimes I just want some quiet Because I've never been loved the way that you love I've never been touched the way that you touch It's easy to love someone from afar, I know Sometimes it feels like we're just tapping hearts, I know I'll write you a letter, you'll send me a card, I know It's been an age since I've seen your face & I wonder how you are Because I've never been loved the way that you love I've never been touched the way that you touch A prayer for anyone who knows when a dream ends, where does it go I know it's late, I know you're tired, I'll let you sleep for the rest of the ride I've never been loved the way that you love I've never been touched the way that you touch I've never been loved the way that you love!

Retourne-Toi 04:13
Can you bring it back to life With a graveyard full of parts Lightning dancing through my veins A broken jar full of thoughts And you keep coming back With a rusty knife & Carpenter keys You're unafraid of most kinds of pain But you still feel the heat If we play it like a horror movie Who's gonna make it to the end I didn't want to leave you But I couldn't keep my head Too many nights spent Watching Portrait of a Lady on Fire Too many nights wondering If I should have said “retourne-toi” If it's written like a mystery Maybe we could start it at the end It was unfathomable to lose you But I could never catch the thread I wonder what I am to you these days Am I the one that got away Do you turn away at last with a sigh of relief Am I the cautionary tale I can see you on a beach A blaze of white on pink Are you gonna burn all summer The way you bloom in spring

about

TDWOL 35 // AM OK // I've been living/working/writing in a rented house in the Poconos for the past month & these are some of the songs I wrote. I would love to tell you it's been a Justin Vernon type of experience but I don't think there was a smart TV in the cabin where he wrote the first Bon Iver album. Besides, I really wanted to make a joyful, breezy-sounding record for a lost summer that was more than just telling the truth & making it rhyme & even though I still probably wrote too many words I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

*100% of sales from my Bandcamp this summer are going to the Philadelphia Black Giving Circle. You can also DM me a screenshot of a recent charitable donation & I will send you a download code*

AM OK is the third of six EPs coming out in 2020. Check out the Subscribe link above!
