Stone To Stone

by That Dream Was Our Life

1.
I could stop today But I'm not that driven It's almost summer And I just want to be forgiven A January chill That never left my bones Erase the steps That lead from stone to stone Far from devotion The curses that you follow You could go to sleep & wake up as someone else tomorrow Hotel mirrors & the walls close in Apologies are underneath the bed Blind to flattery & self-defeat A secret playlist leave it on repeat The world gets smaller As we grow colder Forgive yourself & be someone new tomorrow
2.
Catch the light Before the waves can bend it Funeral sign Says "This Is Not An Exit" Why does everything slip through my fingers The closer that I get You fill my head with catastrophes That haven't happened yet The pain in someone's eyes when they're lost Or maybe they don't know anymore It isn't always someone else's fault Maybe we're just made to suffer Wedding dress In the branches of a spruce tree What's been obvious to you Constantly eludes me All I dig are tombs Bury a treasure with my fear Why are the darkest thoughts Always the first to volunteer The pain in someone's eyes when they're lost Or maybe they don't know anymore It isn't always someone else's fault Maybe we're just made to suffer Sometimes I lie to myself & pretend That I never said it Do you have contempt for the love that you want In case you never get it This can't go on forever It couldn't be saved Sometimes it's for the better To watch a half-life decay The pain in someone's eyes when they're lost Or maybe they don't know anymore It isn't always someone else's fault Maybe we're just made to suffer
3.
Look for signs before a big decision For fate to prove you wrong for just this instance Will it ever be the same Call you by your proper name The past can kiss & burn you like a flame Love is safe when you don't know its limit Unaware of danger 'til you're in it Will it ever be the same Call you by your proper name The past can kiss & burn you like a flame Will it ever be the same Call you by your proper name Nightmares that you don't deserve Grace that you could never earn The past can kiss & burn you like a flame
4.
Spend half your life trying to get back to zero What justice are you waiting for Enchanted by magic made for other people It starts with a key to a door I have to be near you But somebody needs you Can you believe me If I never see you It's been so long since I've felt anything The way that my heart sings for you Sometimes it feels like you love everything But there just isn't enough room For someone who knows me But everyone needs you Can you believe me I can't even see you You breathe an impossible spell And pull me outside of myself We're closer in dreams we've no right to confess I have to be near you But somebody needs you Can you believe me If I never see you You don't believe me

about

EP 44 // STONE TO STONE // I know I put out a lot of music but I like to work & don't have a lot of time to waste. If you document something in (or close to) the moment you write it, it stays fresh & says something true. Or at least I think it does. I started putting STONE TO STONE together in March as I was meeting new people, reuniting with loved ones & favorite places, & experiencing music & art in person again. Most of it has been great, some of it has felt hollow, & a few sorrows arrived or maybe they never left to begin with? It's never just one thing, it all happens at once & that's what I'm always going for xx

Written between chapters of Chuck Klosterman & Qian Julie Wang, the NBA playoffs, semi-weekly games of Back 4 Blood w/ Randy & Roberto, & oh I saw Everything Everywhere All At Once 3X in the theater.

This is the second EP in my 2022 series. Check out the Subscribe link above for more info <3
