Lesser Truths

by That Dream Was Our Life

/
1.
Easier to hate than to forgive Easier to forgive than to forget Shipwrecked on the stones of 13th Street Battered by the storm you don't expect What kind of fool do they take you for To fall for that again What kind of fool do they take you for The same fool you've always been A lonely wolf that's staying up all night Howling at every sad Thai commercial that he can find "Forget Me Not" & "Dementia Dad" Tears that feed a hunger he never knew he had What kind of fool do they take you for To fall for that again What kind of fool do they take you for The same fool you've always been Love's the hand that rises from the dirt A blood moon that descends over the earth We can make it if we take it step by step A silver bullet that puts the beast to rest
2.
Meet me at the Royal around eleven I don't like to drink but I love the sound of people Laughter like piano keys that float above the hum of conversation We talk of dreams that never reach fruition And disappointment is a face that we keep hidden They break like the applause when the waitress drops a glass on the wooden floors of the tavern A full moon rises at the same time the sun sets in the west People tell you how to live your life because they think they know what's best They're not the ones taking all their chances They're not the ones who are living with the consequences When I tell you that I love you I'm not just saying it so I can hear you answer A button reads "Heaven Is A Place Called Heaven" Heavy eyes, familiar signs we should be leaving Let's get you home, I have to be up early And I know you like to sleep in With dreams of new beginnings
3.
In the night you feel invincible But morning dissolves all resolve And the world becomes a mystery Full of problems so impossible to solve There are rooms you never open When the door swings you cover your eyes Will you spend your whole life worrying For a landslide that never arrives In a crowd you feel invisible A shadow that never takes its form Is anyone out there listening To any other voice than their own Do you think you're getting too close Hopes that fall silent like the snow When it melts all that's left is the dirt From the fears we buried long ago Everyone needs an anchor Despair pulls you out like the tide If you want I can be your answer I can hold your hand until it's light
4.
Around the corner from your place You can always find the same mistakes But there's always love that you can make If you can keep your pretty head awake Miles & minutes Driving to your home Crazy exes blowing up your phone Tells you something that you've always known Sometimes you're better off alone Familiar pain & fitful starts The current pulling on our arms But if we can trace our scars Maybe we can face our hearts A look out the window to your favorite face My books in your bed, I can hardly wait I know a bookstore that's open late All you have to do is turn the page Sometimes you feel like you've got to fight for every piece of joy you find "I can't believe the way that you lead me on, can't you see just how bad I need you" Forgotten faces, fitful starts Empty rooms & burning cars Trace the tattoos on your arms Maybe I can reach your heart Familiar pain & fitful starts The current pulling on our arms But if we can trace our scars Maybe we can face our hearts

about

This EP contains three new songs including one about sad Thai commercials (they are so sad but so good), conversations at Royal Tavern & the dirty snow & potholes on Lombard. The fourth song is an unreleased track from 2014 called "Miles & Minutes", which was an ill-advised attempt to write about a bookstore to the sound of "Young Folks" :P

*This is the tenth in a series of twelve EPs that I am releasing in 2014-15. Check out the SUBSCRIBE link up top for more info*
